The Military Enlisted Retirement Village is organized exclusively to provide affordable housing and services for retired enlisted miltary personnel, their spouse, widows and/or widowers, from all branches of the military, including Guard and Reserve components. Each unit features independent living where residents may live comfortably and affordably.
HISTORY:
The Military Enlisted Retirement Village, Inc. was founded by a group of retired military non-commissioned officers on 29 January 2004 and incorporated in Texas as a not-for-profit corporation. MERV was granted Federal tax exempt status as a 501(c)3 effective 29 January 2004.
CONCEPT:
MERV was conceived as a project to construct retirement villages for enlisted military personnel from any branch of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard or National Guard components) who retired with 20 or more years of active service, and their family.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
1. Retired enlisted military member. Retired Warrant Officers or Officers who were prior enlisted are not eligible. The spouse of a retired Officer or Warrant Officer is not eligible.
Enlisted members grade will not be used to establish a priority position within a Village nor for admission to a Village.
2. The minumum age for residency is 62. For couples, only one spouse need be 62.
3. All applicants must be ambulatory and submit a statement of their physical condition signed by a physician.
4. Prospective members must possess a current unlimited privilege military ID card prior to admittance.
